How to Make Candles — Video Guide
DIY Candle-Making Kit with Soy Wax Wax’N’Fire 041 — Video
Transcript:
Hi everyone! Today we’re going to show you what the soy wax set Wax’N’Fire 041 consists of.
The set includes:
📍 5 kg of 100% American soy wax,
📍 50 wicks (suitable for containers of up to 5-6 cm (1.9 inches) in diameter),
📍 60 glue dots for wicks,
📍 two centering devices,
📍 an instruction (make sure to read them before you start making your first candle).
Wax’N’Fire 041 wax is suitable for making candles.
It has a low melting point (approximately 38-44 °C, 100-110 °F), which makes our wax candles burn slower and more evenly.
Our soy wax takes aromas well (up to 10-12%). No frosting occurs as the wax solidifies. The wax has a high level of adhesion.
We told you about the features, and now let’s move on to the preparation and subsequent actions to make the candle!
To make a candle we need:
📍 our kit (wax, wicks, glue dots for wicks, centering devices),
📍 a pot,
📍 a pitcher (or any other container to melt the wax),
📍 a thermometer,
📍 flavoring and coloring agent, if desired,
📍 a stirring stick,
📍 scales
📍 and stove.
Pour water into the pot, you can get warm water in order to speed up the process.
Measure the amount of wax needed for our container. Our 200 ml container will need 160 g (5,6 oz) of unmelted wax. The proportion is approximately as follows: the volume of your container should be multiplied by 0.8, and you will get the necessary amount of wax in grams (oz). With this proportion, you will have about 1 cm (0.4 inches) to the edge of the container. But be guided by your container, you may need a little more or a little less wax.
Let’s start heating the water in the pot.
Slowly stirring and periodically measuring the temperature of the wax, bring it to a liquid state. Do not stir the wax very vigorously, as then there will be air bubbles in it, which will remain as voids in the finished candle. Once the wax is melted, remove it from the water bath.
If desired, you can add flavoring or dye the candle at this stage.
For good adhesion, wash and dry the container in which you will pour the wax.
Put the container in which you are going to pour the wax in advance in a place where it will stand still until the wax hardens (about 8 hours). Try not to touch the jar during this time, so that the candle hardens evenly.
Attach a double-sided glue dot to the base of the wick.
Place the sticky side of the wick on the bottom of the jar in the center and secure it to the surface of the container with the centering device.
We have no recommendation about the temperature you should pour your wax at, the pouring temperature may vary depending on room temperature, humidity, sunlight, etc.
The temperature in our room is 26 °C (78,8 °F).
We will pour the wax into the jar at 51 °C (123,8 °F).
Slowly pour the wax out of the pitcher so that no bubbles form, which will later become cavities. Look at the jar, if you see that bubbles have formed, you can lightly tap on the edge to make them rise to the top.
Let the candle solidify.
Once the candle is completely frozen, you can remove the centering device and trim the wick. Leave 5 to 10 mm (approximately 0,2 to 0,4 inches) of the wick to allow it to melt enough place for proper burning.
